Kawaii Japan - From Giant Gundam to Romantic Lovers' Cage

One of the most memorable visits I had in Japan was at a new shopping complex opened in 2012, the DiverCity Tokyo Plaza at Odaiba (a man made island in Tokyo Bay). What made this mall really worth visiting was the giant size Gundam statue standing right in front of the building:

We looked so puny in front of the six storey high
Gundam statue!

I am not a great fan of Gundam but was still awestruck when I saw this monstrous size anime character that was extremely well known in Japan. I think I will really freak out if the Gundam starts moving, which I really thought might happened at one point in time (pardon my wild imagination) as it looks so life like!

There was also a Gundam cafe within walking distance from the impressive statue:

Time for lunch at a restaurant serving fantastic tasting chicken don right inside the mall!

As our Japanese girlfriend, Masako, was not with us on this trip, we decided to make a calculated guess on which restaurant was likely to serve good food based on the number of people having their meals inside the restaurant. And this method worked very well in this case as the lunch was simply fantastic! The chicken was grilled to perfection (not burnt or dry) and most significantly, the half cooked golden yellow egg yolk was not only beautiful to look at, but also tasted heavenly when mixed with the slightly sticky Japanese rice. It added a really creamy texture to the rice which made it more flavorful! Even my husband who does not particularly like eating egg yolks find the egg yolk and rice mixture really yummy. All in all, although a rather simple lunch affair compared to the sumptuous sushi spread we had at Sushizanmai, the chicken don served at this small restaurant is, in my opinion, one of the best food I have tried in Japan!

Before we knew it, it was night time again after a round of shopping inside the mall. We headed outside the mall and after a short walk, the magnificient Rainbow Bridge came into our sight:

Behold the grandeur in front!
This is one of the most romantic spots Bernard and I had been to!
May our friendship be as long as the sight in front of us!
There was also a Statue of Liberty in the same area:

And to our surprise and delight, a romantic lovers' cage nearby:

A really suitable place for a marriage proposal don't you think?
We really enjoyed the day trip to Odaiba and would recommend this place for a romantic escapade for couples :). There is also no lack of entertainment in the form of shopping, sight seeing and good food so definitely a great place to visit for tourists!

More about Kawaii Japan in my next and final post on my Japan trip!
