My Experience As A Buyer Host And Exhibitor At Blueprint

Before I started Lace And Buttons, I was no way close to being in the fashion business. Sure, I have several years of experience in communications and events, but definitely nothing related to fashion. To understand more about the fashion industry, I decided to volunteer as a buyer host for the Blueprint Trade-show held at Suntec City on 17 and 18 May 2012.

I was assigned to host two lovely ladies from Manila, Preachy and Maria. Both ladies are Assistant Vice President of Merchandising at Robinsons Philippines and it is really a pleasure of mine to guide them around the trade floor. While I was hosting the two ladies, I also have a great time coming to learn about many brands I have not heard before, ranging from eclectic accessories to French-inspired sleepwear.

Following the trade-show, I joined the Blueprint Emporium as an exhibitor on 19 and 20 May 2012. It was great fun as I finally got the opportunity to interact with many customers and supporters of Lace And Buttons. One disadvantage about running an online store is that we don't really get to see the customers face-to-face and there is a lost of personal touch :( ....Hence, we really value the opportunity to communicate with our customers at the event and it made us really happy to see our customers satisfied with their purchases :).

Given the encouraging results, we will be looking out for more exciting events to take part in so that we can have more direct contacts with our supporters.

Thanks to all our customers for your support and we hope to see you again soon at our next event!

Asia Fashion Exchange - Asia's Leading Fashion Hub,14-20 May 2012

The Asia Fashion Exchange (AFX) starts today and will last through the week. For those who are not familiar, the AFX comprises of four key pillar events, including Blueprint (i.e. a trade show attended by hundreds of international buyers and promising designers), the Asia Fashion Summit (i.e. a business conference for industry professionals), the Audi Fashion Festival Singapore (i.e. a showcase of world-class designers' collections) and last but not least, the Star Creation (i.e a regional fashion design competition).

I am proud to announce that Lace And Buttons will be participating as a exhibitor at the Blueprint Emporium, which is an extension of the Blueprint trade show. The Emporium is a unique weekend shopping experience open to the public and it will be held on 19 and 20 May.

The Blueprint Emporium will be held at Suntec Convention on 19 and 20 May 2012

We are really looking forward to the event and have been busy with the preparation since last weekend! Apart from the collection currently on our website, we will also be bringing to the event some of our latest collection consisting mainly of street-wear of the latest trend and fashion, all at wallet-friendly prices :)!

In addition, we are really excited to be exhibiting our collection alongside some of the most established  local designer brands such as Max Tan and Mae Pang.

Runway Models Meet Criteria for Anorexia - True Beauty?

I am a Psychology Major and have read extensively on eating disorders during my University days. But I am still a little taken aback when I saw this photo on fashionista.com -

Photo by Plus Model Magazine, featuring plus-size model Katya Zharkova
This provocative shoot grabbed my attention immediately as it reflects the social problem we face regarding what is considered "beautiful" today. According to the editorial of Plus Model Magazine, most runway models meet the Body Mass Index physical criteria for Anorexia. In addition, the fashion model of today weighs as much as 23% less than the average women while the difference was only 8% twenty years ago.

Scary isn't it?

Personally, I think that models who are too skinny (i.e. somewhat look like they are undernourished) are really not all that attractive.A model with a healthy image such as a balanced figure and clear complexion is much more desirable. In addition, most consumers are women of average size and an anorexic looking model may not be the best representative of fashion apparels for the general consumer market.
