Excellent Korean BBQ at Great Prices!

Bernard had been craving for some Korean barbecue cuisine at a reasonable price so we decided to head down to Johor Bahru to try out the food at a newly opened Korean restaurant in City Square Mall. We had been eyeing this restaurant for some time now as we had previously checked out the menu and remembered that the prices were relatively cheaper than what we could find in Singapore for higher end restaurants serving Korean barbecue.

The newly opened restaurant was fairly packed on a Saturday afternoon. Interesting looking smoke chimneys hanging from the ceiling!
As I don't take beef and chicken is not available on the menu, we decided to go for marinated pork ribs and pork belly. In case you have not tried authentic Korean BBQ before, all meat sets are served with an assortment of fresh greens as wraps for the meat after they are cooked. In Bornga Restaurant, the waitress assigned to serve our table helped to bbq the meat for us.

Side dishes (e.g. Kim Chi, Beansprouts, Korean Seasoning Salad, Green Onions Salad, Radish and Spinach)  as appetizers and sauces including Korean sweet sauce and chilli to go with the food
The green leafy vegetables not only looked appetizing but were also really fresh and delicious! Great complement to the BBQ meat.
BBQ in the best way - traditional charcoal grill

BBQ pork ribs served fresh and hot!
The simplest way to eat is to wrap the BBQ meat in a lettuce and savor it together. Dip the meat into some sauce before wrapping if preferred.

We loved the BBQ pork ribs! The meat was really well marinated with a sweet, delectable flavor. Super tasty! The pork belly set we ordered did not come with special marination and therefore the taste was much milder but still quite good as we could enjoy its original flavor. The only thing that I did not really like was that the skin (uppermost layer of the pork belly slices) was a little hard to chew and there were some bones which caused some inconvenience. Both meat dishes tasted great with the crunchy vegetables and sauces!
To end off, here was my outfit of the day:

The bill added up to less than SGD$15 per pax! Pretty affordable for such high quality BBQ food in our opinion :). Apart from BBQ, Bornga Restaurant also serves other Korean dishes such as Army Stew (my next food interest!), Bibimbap and Tofu Kim Chi Soup etc..
