Announcement as of 28 February 2013

To all our Lace And Buttons' fans and supporters,

Just a couple of quick announcements:

1) We will be going on a retreat from 28 Feb to 9 March 2013. During this period, business will continue and we will still be processing online orders. However, all shipping will only resume on 11 March, Monday. All email queries will be slower during this period and we seek your understanding on this matter.

2) Due to our new business direction, Lace And Buttons will no longer be having a physical rack at Miyoc Boutique, Jcube, after 28 Feb 2013. As such, self-collection is no longer available and we will be operating strictly through shipping/delivery only.

Currently, Miyoc Jcube is holding an interesting event which we would like to share with you as we thought it is very meaningful:

Take a polaroid at Miyoc, Jcube! For every polaroid taken, a donation will be given to salvation army. Receive a $2 Miyoc voucher at the same time.

Breakfast at Starbucks, JCube

I wasn't really a huge fan of Starbucks but was enticed to visit their new outlet at JCube when I saw their publicity banner for their breakfast menu. Always thought of Starbucks as a place for coffee and drinks only, so a promotion for their breakfast selection creates a refreshing impression for me.

Here is what Bernard, my husband, and I ordered last Saturday when we visited:

Sundried Tomato, Turkey Ham And Monterey Jack Sandwich. Plain looking on the outside but comes with rich fillings on the inside

Mushrooms And Mozzarella Flaky Sandwich. Delicious crispy crust with melted cheese and creamy white mushrooms

Each breakfast set comes with a regular coffee or tea

Although the breakfast selection is nothing too out of the ordinary, the overall standard of the food is pretty decent and we enjoyed our breakfast very much! The price of  each breakfast set is at $6.90 which we thought is rather reasonable.

We really couldn't resist having a cake as well and hence we got this:

Thick chocolate mud cake for chocolate lovers! Pure indulgence as the cake is really sweet!

Valentine's Day Dinner At FullHouse Cafe

When I first heard of the name "Full House", I was immediately reminded of the popular 2004 romantic Korean drama by famous actors, Rain and Song Hye-Kyo.

Hence, I was (more or less) expecting FullHouse Cafe to bore an ambiance reeking of romance and having a sleek and clean look representative of Korean style cafes. I was not disappointed.

This white themed cafe is beautifully decorated with lush and vintage style furnishings, white roses and lilies as well as whimsical drawings of cartoon characters and accessories etc..

We were really impressed by the artsy feel of the whole place and that explains the many photos we took! All this time that we were busy taking pictures, our orders for dinner were being prepared - we simply could not sit still and wait for dinner to arrive as the surroundings are just too beautiful! We couldn't wait to explore the cafe!

When we got back to our seats, dinner was served:

Although the ambiance and decorations of the cafe is fantastic, I have to say that the taste of the food is rather average. The fusion style cuisine served is quite decent, but definitely not of gourmet standard. After a 15% discount using UOB credit card, the bill adds up to just below $40, which is still reasonably affordable.

Family Reunion Dinner At De' Kranji Farm Resort

Chinese New Year is a time for family gathering and great food so I am really glad to start off the festive celebration at a unique restaurant located at De' Kranji Farm Resort (after some research, I realise it is Singapore's first and only Agri-tainment farm). The drive to the De'Beer Seafood Restaurant is an interesting one as the scenery along the way is extremely different from what we usually see in cosmopolitan Singapore. Call me "sua gu" (hokkien dialect for "ignorant") but I was quite fascinated to see lots of farms (e.g. vegetable, fish, prawn, goat) in a part of Singapore that is unknown to me till then.

We reached the restaurant at around 6pm and it was already quite packed. I guess many Singaporeans do enjoy the rustic and casual ambiance offered by the restaurant, as a refreshing break away from the norm. Here were some of the dishes we ordered:

Suckling pig roasted to perfection. Some parts of the meat is still fatty but overall, the skin is crsipy and the meat is quite tender

Hot plate toufu with minced meat

Kai lan with fried beancurd

Succulent fish with mixed vegetable

Overall, the quality and taste of the food is very good and definitely worth a try. Apart from enjoying the delicious cuisine, we also bought very cheap and fresh fruits from the fruit vendor operating from a stall in the alfresco restaurant. And this was one of the highlight of the visit:

Another eye-opener for me as it was the first time I witnessed the process of roasting a suckling pig.

If you are in the mood for some novelty activities after a hearty meal, you can consider fishing for big prawns at the restaurant's prawning area at a fee.

To all our customers, to ensure that you receive your orders before Chinese New Year, Lace and Buttons is providing Self-Collection Service:

Self-Collection will be available at Orchard Central, #05-12, on
6 Feb AND on 8 Feb, 5.30pm - 8.30pm for each day respectively.

For collection at Orchard Central, payment must be made lastest by 4pm on 6 Feb or 8 Feb for same day collection.

Self-Collection will be available at Jcube (Jurong East), #04-14 from
7 Feb, 3pm - 9pm.

For collection at Jcube, payment must be made lastest by 1pm for same day collection.

If self-collection is preferred, please indicate on the “Remark” section of the order form the preferred collection venue. We will be in touch with you to confirm collection details upon payment confirmation.
